This rotation I was the Travel Tracer for "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie. That meant that I was meant to keep track of where important events occur in chronological order. We read this week from page number 99-197.
List of key events w/ location :
List of key events w/ location :
- The first event is that we learn Penelope (The main characters supposed, part girlfriend) is bulimic. This means she has an in-existent eating order or commonly known as binge eating. After a large meal due to a sudden urge of hunger a bulimic person will then be concerned about the amount of calories they consume and vomit to get rid of those calories.
Location: In a hallway outside of the bathrooms
Page: 106 - The second event is a dance party. This party is special as it is the winter formal. Here Junior character is wearing his fathers old polyester, stereotypical disco suit which ends up being very entertaining. Here he is with Penelope and dances to every song and generally has a good time.
Location: Reardan High-School Gym
Page: 121 - The third event occurs directly after the dance where Roger (a supporting character) and some others have invited Penelope and Junior to go with them to a 24 hour pancake place. However what is significant is that when Roger drops off Junior at the school parking lot where he is supposedly going to be picked up by his father Penelope asks Junior whether he is poor. He doesn't lie and tells her that he is. Form here Roger brings him home.
Location: School Parking Lot
Page: 127 - The next event which occurs when Junior has joined the basketball team and his first game is against the reservation where he lived and his former high-school. When he arrives he has to go against his former best friend and to make things worse, he has to play in his former high-school's gym. Here he receives much negativity and is concussed by his former best friend.
Location: The Wellipint High-School Gym
Page: 145 - The fifth event is when we learn of the death of Junior's grandmother. His grandmother was called Grandmother Spirit. According to junior she was very tolerant and kind. However she was run over by a drunk driver which ended up killing her.
Location:
Description: Standard narration from nowhere
Death: Coming back from a powwow at the Spokane Tribal Community Center
Page: 157 - The last event is when there is a basketball rematch between Wellipint (Junior's former High-School) and Reardan (His current High-School). Here junior has a great yet terrible game. He has a terrible game in the sense that he only scores three points. However on the bright side he has a great game as he blocks a dunk and wins the game.
